Pen name
The use of a pseudonym may not seem like marketing theme for the authors, but it really is. I've worked with writers using pseudonyms have worked, and I've always been a major obstacle in the effective marketing of his book.
The reason is simple: if you are trying to market your book on your platform ... Friends, family, colleagues, people who enjoy your writing in general ... they do not know you by your pseudonym. You know how. When all at once, try using a different name, how will the Community members of your platform, see if you say to them, not that defeat the purpose of using a pseudonym in the first place? For example, if you want your school's alumni newsletter that you have published a book called, they will not know you by your nickname, and do not know your classmates who you are nor.
Only a few authors that I have decided to use pseudonyms that have been renamed for a good reason. Should do, she thought it was something writers. There are times, to use a pseudonym, but they are few and far between.
Using a pseudonym makes sense if:
1. Bring your book would be embarrassed for your friends and family. Perhaps your book is about a very sensitive issue, contempt or embarrassment to the people in your life, what would keep the substance or sexual abuse.
2nd You're in the witness protection program. Ok, this may be a bit extreme, but if you have a really good reason to keep your real identity secret, as your life, family, work, have to protect, etc., may be worth considering, a pseudonym.
3rd Its proper name is not marketable. You should have a name with 13 consonants in a row must really have a claim, but if your name is not pronounced with the average in the street, you can check a pseudonym. Otherwise, gave the names of your parents that you will be well served.
4th You want to hide your gender. This little trick is mainly used by people who write novels. For some reason, women prefer novels by other women who do not read written a 50-year-old man was dressed in flannel shirt and smoked cigars.
Stephen King wrote four novels under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. It was not his idea. Felt at that time, as his publisher, the reader would not get more than one novel per year from the same author. Pearl Gray changed his name to Zane Gray, because he would not buy a Western reader novel by a man named Pearl (he knew enough, right).
In most cases, the use of a pseudonym struck me as a bigger problem than all vanity ... Ways to buy a license plate that spells something sweet. It may seem like a good idea, but most do not know.
Promotion of a book is difficult enough. Why make it harder to hide in your results to write a book?
